How to compress pdf
- 1
Add the PDF you want to shrink.
- 2
Enter your target size, or tap a preset such as 200 KB.
- 3
Click Compress PDF. The result size is shown with your download.
Hit a size limit without guessing
Portals and email servers often cap uploads at 1 MB, 500 KB or less. Enter that limit and the tool tries gentler settings first, stopping as soon as the file is under it.
What gets smaller
Large photos and scanned images are resampled to a lower resolution and compressed harder. Text and vector drawings are not rasterised, so they stay crisp. A file that is already under your target is returned unchanged.
Questions about this tool
How small can I make a PDF?
Targets from 10 KB upward are accepted. Very small targets are only possible for PDFs that are mostly text. Image-heavy files have a practical floor set by their photos.
Why did I not reach my target?
Some files hold content that cannot shrink much, such as embedded fonts or vector art. The tool tells you the smallest size it reached.
Is compression lossy?
Images are re-encoded at lower resolution and quality, so they lose some detail. Text is kept as text, so it does not blur.
