How to Compress a PDF to 100 KB (Step-by-Step)

Forms and portals often cap uploads at 100 KB. This is the fastest way to hit that number.

1 min read · Updated

Many application forms and government portals refuse any PDF above 100 KB. A text-only document is usually already that small. A document with photos or scanned pages needs more work.

Step 1: Open the compressor

Go to Compress PDF to 100 KB. The target is already set, so you only need your file.

Step 2: Add the PDF and run it

Drop the file in and press Compress. Large scanned PDFs can take a minute, because each image has to be resampled.

Step 3: Read the result message

The tool tells you the final size. If it says the target was not reached, the file has content that cannot shrink much. In that case, remove pages you do not need with Remove pages, then compress again.

If you still cannot get under 100 KB

  • Scan at a lower resolution next time, around 150 dpi is enough for documents.
  • Save photos as JPG rather than PNG before putting them in the document.
  • Split a long document into parts if the portal allows multiple uploads.
